Gambit’s face was also a wash with emotions. With as… complicated as his past with Belladonna was, he couldn’t kid himself enough to say he didn’t have feelings for her once, and in a way he still did. Not so far as romantic feelings, no, but he didn’t want to see her hurt.

That being said, he would rather have her safe and sound and in another time zone than the one he was in at the moment. His face set, and he looked from his ex-wife and back to his girlfriend. “I thi’we gettin’ trouble weather we wan’it or no’.” he said, standing up. “Tha’s the thin’ about Bella, she brin’ trouble wit’ her ev’n mo’ den’ I do.”

Rogue looked up at him, starting to question more. But she decided that for once she should keep her mouth shut. “Well, whatcha gonna do? We can’t just walk outta here.” She turned her body slightly, peering over her shoulder at the woman, his ex-wife. She was letting this fact sink in. And it was threatening to eat her alive. She straightened herself, folding her hands on the table. “Maybe it’s best I leave…for now. It’s not too far a walk back to the Mansion.”

“No need t’be leaving on my accoun’.” said a woman’s voice. Gambit’s eyes shot up to the statuesque blonde. “Sorry Remy, I got tired of waiting.” she said with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. Without waiting for an invitation, the newcomer grabbed an extra chair and joined the two lovebirds. She extended a hand to Rogue, fake business-smile still in place “Belladonna Boudreaux, it’s a pleasure to meet you Miss…?”

Rogue unfolded her hands, cautiously extending one to her. “Rogue. Just Rogue.” She narrowed her eyes as she tried to decide what to make of Belladonna. So many things she could say, but she bit her tongue…for once. “Nice to meet ya, too,” she said in a flat tone. She glanced at Remy, giving him an anxious look.

Belladonna just smiled her same cold smile. “Remy-“

Gambit flinched. He hated it when she called him by his old name, like they were still two mud-covered kids playing in the Mississippi.

“-I only find myself in town because I need your help, and you don’t know it yet, but you need mine.” she said, her smile fading to somber expression. “You pissed off’a lota people back home, and they’s already spoilin’ for a fight. I’ve got’a whole mess on my hands. Apparently some of our newer members have an issue with my authority.” she said, giving Gambit a knowing look.

The thief paused “So yo’gotta mutiny on yo’ hands. I wish I coul’help but apparen’ly” he had to force himself not to smile. It only partially worked “I hav’a bad habit’a pissin’ people off. And since I offic’ly severed ties wit’d guilds, I don’ see how dis becom’ my problem.”

He held up his hands in defense, his voice dropping to a whisper “Don’ go lookin’ at me like dat.” he said, his face grave once more “It was an’arranged marriage, designed t’quell an old rivalry ‘tween th’ Assassin an’ Thief guilds.” he sighed “T’say is’complicated don’ even begin t’cover it.” he sighed, and proceed to tell Rogue damn near everything: his own dealings with the thieves guild as a young man, his friendship with Belladonna when they were young, the tragedy at their wedding and his subsequent banishment by both of the guilds. It wasn’t the easiest story to tell, but she needed to hear it.

Because if Belladonna had shown up in his life again, things were about to get very dangerous.

She sat there, listening to him explain his story. Her face softened slightly, but her posture remained rigid. A thousand emotions were running through her. Pain, sympathy, anger, confusion. Why had he not told her about this? What other secrets was he probably keeping from her? And why was this Belladonna back? Her eyes averted to her lap momentarily. “Arranged marriage, huh?” She quickly looked back up at him, her face emotionless. “Betta find out what she wants. Don’t want any trouble.” Her features became rigid once more.

Gambit’s face was also a wash with emotions. With as… complicated as his past with Belladonna was, he couldn’t kid himself enough to say he didn’t have feelings for her once, and in a way he still did. Not so far as romantic feelings, no, but he didn’t want to see her hurt.
